10. Experts Warn to End DRC Ebola Virus Outbreak Now
In November, December 2018 and early 2019, 3 separate teams of US experts on biosecurity and epidemics warned that the USA must intervene to aid the WHO coalition and control this DRC Ebola virus outbreak. Recognizing the issues of regional instability and that in October 2018 (and again in April and June of 2019) the WHO did not issue a PHEIC, these experts gave data and arguments supporting their view that the US government, CDC and global community should immediately reenter the DRC’s fight against Ebola virus. Most nations with international leadership roles in the Group of 20 (G20) followed the present US policy and have not committed to this cause. As this outbreak drags on, neighboring regional states may yet institute sanctions, causing supply shortages, starvation and increase the movement of regional populations (60-63). After the first confirmed case arrived in the metropolis of Goma, DRC a PHEIC was declared in mid-July 2019 (Conclusion).
